Our limiting beliefs can be one of our greatest obstacles we face in achieving a goal. The script we have come to believe and trust that ultimately stands in the way of achieving our goals or intentions may be so readily used that, yes, even you and everyone you know are assured that it is 100 percent true.
“I’m too busy”; “I can’t afford it”; “It’s not my nature”; “No one is there to support me” are all common responses for those who feel stuck.
What if the only thing getting between you and success were your thoughts, and what if you began to challenge your thoughts? What if from this day forward you began to practice conscious communication and matched your thoughts with what you really wanted? A novel idea, right – keep reading!
Did you know the average human has 60 to 70 thousand thoughts per day (someone out there really counted them). The problem is that for most of us, 95 percent of the thoughts we will have today are the exact same thoughts we had yesterday, and the day before! Our thinking patterns become habit – and nothing holds stronger than a habit!
Try this, the next time someone asks you to something outside your normal comfort zone, before you respond with “No, I can’t” ask yourself “What if? … Allow yourself the gift of contemplating the opportunity to do something new. See it. Feel it. Perhaps it could be fun and invite new possibilities.
Another great way to practice changing your thinking habit is to replace the word “BUT” with “AND”. Here is an example, “ I really should go to the gym today (but) I am very busy and don’t have the time.” Instead try this, “I really should go to the gym today (and) although I am busy I will go for 30 minutes instead of one hour.” Which one of those thoughts may help you get closer to achieving your wellness goals? Replace “ I don’t know how” with “I’ll figure it out.” “It feels too big” with “I’ll break it down into baby steps.”
I promise as a coach that when you change your thoughts, you can change your life. Because everything happens in your thoughts first. Then when you have mastered aligning your thoughts with what you want – share this gift with the kids!
