Earlier this fall while watching the news Berkshire Family Focus editor and Founder Kelly Bevan McIlquham was surprised to hear that apple-picking season had begun. Apparently late spring frosts and the considerably dry weather and record temperatures the region had this summer generated an early crop of apples, and according to the newscaster, if you wait until late-October to go picking there is a good chance the apples will be gone.

So here’s a list of pick-your-own farms in the Berkshire region:

Pittsfield, Jaeschke’s Orchard, 740 Crane Ave., 413-443-7180
Lanesborough, Lakeview Orchards, 94 Old Cheshire Road, 413-448-6009, lakevieworchard.com
Great Barrington: Windy Hill Farm, 686 Stockbridge Road, 413-298-3217, windyhillfarminc.com
Richmond: Bartlett’s Orchard, 575 Swamp Road, Richmond, 413-698-2559, facebook.com
                       Hilltop Orchard, 508 Canaan Road, 800-833-6274, hilltoporchards.com.

Now get picking … and feel free to send some of your photos or favorite apple-inspired recipes at info@berkshirefamilyfocus.com. You may just be featured in a Berkshire Family Focus post.
