Wahconah Apollonian Players to present ‘Legally Blonde’

DALTON —If you are looking for lively, laugh-out-loud, exciting entertainment for the whole family this week in the Berkshires, get yourselves to Wahconah Regional High School and dive into the world of Elle Woods in this year’s Wahconah Apollonian Players’ spring musical “Legally Blonde!”

“Legally Blonde!,” a musical based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture starring Reese Witherspoon, tells the story of Elle Woods, president of the Delta Nu sorority at UCLA and her struggles and successes as she follows her one true love, Warner, to Harvard Law. The story is full of fun twists and turns that are brought to life with lively music, dance and, of course, characters that audience members can’t help but fall in love with.

“It’s a recent Broadway hit that a lot of high school kids can relate to,” said director Thomas Towne. “It encourages perseverance and striving for something more than you ever thought you could do.”

The show, while displaying these important themes also has a great bunch of lovable characters with whom anyone can relate. They are charming and silly and can make just about anyone laugh.

Performances take place this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 4, 5 and 6. Thursday’s performance is at 7 p.m., Friday’s at 7:30 p.m., and there are two performances on Saturday. The first is at 2 p.m. and the later show is at 7:30 p.m.. All performances are in Wahconah Regional High School’s auditorium, located at 150 Windsor Road, Dalton.Tickets can be purchased ahead of time at O’laughlin’s Pharmacy on Main Street in Dalton for $10 for adults and $9 for students and seniors. They also will be sold at the door.

According to Towne, this show will be one you won’t want to miss. “The music is incredibly catchy,” he said.

The music is a little different from shows the Wahconah Apollonian Players have done in the past, because the musical is so modern. It is just as catchy though, if not more. The dance numbers are giant and full of captivating music and dance (of course)!

The set is also amazing in itself. There are so many interesting set pieces and props. It is definitely one of the most intricate sets many of the cast members have ever worked with.

“It is a different style of musical in that there aren’t traditional scene changes, and that scenes fade from one into the other,” Towne said.

I won’t give any more away right now, but you can come see it for yourself this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Wahconah. Bring family and friends, for an evening full of family fun and laugh-out-loud entertainment. And if you don’t believe me, just take it from another cast member Courtney Daley.

“(‘Legally Blonde!’) is extremely fun and energetic!”
