Moments House to host Slice of Life Pizza Fundraiser to benefits its programs for families affected by cancer
PITTSFIELD — A year or two ago, I began hearing rumblings of a new organization looking to get off the ground, whose mission was to offer programs and events for Berkshire County families affected by a cancer diagnosis. Their name? Moments House.
Approximately a year after I first heard of Moments House my 11-year-old son Shea was given a school project to raise funds or volunteer to help a cause near and dear to his heart. Remembering this organization, that now had a home on Fenn Street in Pittsfield and had several programs running already, I shared what I knew about it. Having lost his grandfather not quite a year earlier, Shea decided to call the organization and find out more. After a 15-minute phone conversation with Alice Trumball, one of the organizations founders, Shea couldn’t stop talking about all they did for patients AND families affected by cancer.
“Mom, kids can make art to give to cancer patients. And they have crazy wig parties for kids with cancer who have lost their hair,” he said, the excitement for helping such a cause evident in his voice. “The also give blankets to people to keep them warm during chemotherapy and they have fun parties for families.”
Shea was on fire and immediately the wheels started churning with ideas on how to help this organization. His final decision? He would hold an ice cream fundraiser to benefit the group and also bring the free Art with Heart program to his classroom so they could make special message tiles to distribute to patients at a local oncology office.
Moments House now become a cause near and dear to our immediate family’s hearts as well as the Berkshire Family Focus family’s, which is why we want to make sure our readers know about its upcoming fundraiser — its biggest fundraiser of the year — the 3rd Annual Slice of Life Pizza Competition this Saturday, March 9, at 6 p.m., to be held at the Crowne Plaza in Pittsfield.
