PITTSFIELD — Once again the city of Pittsfield is focusing efforts to enhance children’s early literacy skills in and around the Berkshires, and this time it has a little help from a Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care Coordinated Family and Community Engagement grant.
The grant will allow Pittsfield Public Schools and Pittsfield’s Coordinated Family and Community Engagement (CFCE) and Pittsfield’s Wee Read to host a number of evidence-based early literacy programs for families in and around Pittsfield in the upcoming events under the auspices of Every Child Ready to Read.
The program will feature a series of one-hour free sessions taking place throughout Pittsfield geared towards providing parents and children information and activities geared to developing early literacy skills in young children. Topics will include: How to create an early literacy learning home; developing early literacy skills can be FUN; learning about your library resources; and more.
Sessions will take place at the Berkshire Athenaeum; the schedule is as follows:
Wednesday, March 27, 5:30-6:30 p.m.: Parent Workshop (Children will have separate programming)
Tuesday, May 7, 5:30-6:30 p.m.: Fun with Letters for Parents and Children
Tuesday, May 14, 5:30-6:30 p.m.: Fun with Words for Parents and Children
Tuesday, June 4, 5:30-6:30 p.m.: Fun with Science and Math for Parents and Children
Tuesday, June 25, 5:30-6:30 p.m.: Parent Workshop (Children will have separate programming)
Saturday, April 6, 10:30-11:30a.m.: Fun For Parents and Children
Saturday, May 11, 10:30-11:30a.m.: Fun with Letters for Parents and Children
Saturday, June 8, 10:30-11:30a.m.: Fun with science and Math for Parents and Children
