Dottie’s Coffee Lounge is my favorite coffee shop and it’s also one of my top favorite food establishments in the Berkshires. Before I became a stay-at-home mom, I worked in downtown Pittsfield, and Dottie’s was my favorite spot for my lunch break. My usual was Iced Red Eye Chai and the “grain-of-the-day” lunch. All of the food at Dottie’s is ridiculously tasty. It’s not only tasty, but also healthy, organic, locally sourced, perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. And, I love the atmosphere – clean, cozy, comfortable, bright, hip – the tasteful décor can best be described as “where vintage meets modern.”
My girlfriends and I love going to Dottie’s for their Wednesday dinners with entertainment — and it’s also a favorite for our Sunday brunches. On a recent Sunday, my friend and I brought our daughters to Dottie’s for a girls’ brunch. We easily found parking and a table – even though the place was bustling. Our daughters visited at the table while my friend and I went up to the counter to order. I ordered the special Apple Grilled Cheese sandwich with a hot Red Eye Chai for myself. For Zoey, I ordered a side of roasted red potatoes and bacon with a hot cocoa. My friend ordered the Sweet & Spicy Breakfast Sandwich special which came with a side-salad with house vinaigrette plus the Whaling Bagel for her two daughters (a plain bagel with cream cheese and strawberry preserves.) When we tried to pay, we were pleasantly surprised that a friend had called ahead and pre-paid for our brunch. This is a common practice at Dottie’s. They have a special board to keep track of people who pre-pay in order to treat a coffee or a meal for a friend. How wonderful!
The best things I’ve ever eaten at Dottie’s were a Blackberry Grilled Cheese sandwich and a cumin-fresh mint bowtie dish that was inspirational on many levels. My personal recommendations for breakfast are the Climbing Tree sausage on a homemade cheddar-scallion biscuit, the homemade granola or any breakfast special (it is certain to be delicious.) My personal recommendations for lunch are the “grain-of-the-day” and the chicken salad. If the chicken salad is on special, get it!
We were called back to the counter very quickly to pick up our drinks. The coffee drinks at Dottie’s are the best around. They are beautiful, too. Zoey said her hot cocoa was “perfect” – my Red Eye Chai was perfect, too. Our meals were brought out to us – also very quickly. The food was prepared perfectly, as always, and was delicious all around! Zoey’s friend Pearl says that Dottie’s makes her “favorite salad dressing in the world” and gobbled her Mom’s side salad right up!
Zoey enjoyed bussing her own dishes (and mine!). The place is bright, lovely, the drinks are the best around and the food is delicious. They have a full coffee drink selection, a full breakfast and lunch menu, dinners on some Wednesday evenings, an array of baked goods including gluten free selections, Italian sodas and hot and iced teas. Everything is made with love — literally – it’s on the menu — which you can check out on their website: dottiescoffeelounge.com.
