Family-friendly and haunted hayrides in Dalton to benefit local suicide prevention efforts

purgatory road dalton maDALTON — When the last of your children has left home for college and you find yourself no longer consumed with sporting events, PTO meetings and volunteering for various booster clubs and school activities, what do you do? Well, if you’re Dalton moms Betsy Nichols and Joanne Farrell,  you construct a haunted hayride for the community, with proceeds of the ride benefitting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and earmarked for Berkshire County.

The duo have once again begun work on this year’s second annual series of  Purgatory Road Haunted Hayrides to  take place on the weekends leading up to Halloween, Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 18, 19, 25 and 26 , from 7 to 10 p.m. on Nichol’s property at 190 Cleveland Road, Dalton. The rides last approximately a half-hour and are recommended for children 12 years old and up. The rides cost $10 a person and are given on a first-come first-served basis.
