Our Books and Blooms children’s author visits kicked off this week with Claremary Sweeney and “The Alpacas are Coming: Zuzu and the Crias.” This coming week, Tuesday, July 25, local author and illustrator is bringing “Peeper and Zeeps,” and several other characters to the Mount’s Italian Gardens. Gudeon will read from several of his titles and then will lead participants in a fun and creative craft.
Adam Gudeon is a writer and illustrator of children’s picture books. His fourth book, “Peeper and Zeep” (Holiday House) was published this Spring 2017. He lives with his family in Great Barrington.
About the book
“Peeper and Zeep” tells the tale of an unlikely pair of friends, Peep the bird and Zeep the alien, who meet when they lose their ability to get home by doing what they love most — flying. Driven by their desire to return to the skies and see their families, the two meet A. Frog, who works diligently to find a solution to get his newfound friends off the ground. But can A. Frog do it alone?
This early reader “I Like to Read” book, illustrates what happens when friends work together, much of which Gudeon portrays through his colorful and playful drawings. Always drawn to a children’s book via the illustrations on its cover, the art didn’t disappoint as I made my way through the book. I can’t wait to give it to my 5-year-old nephew, who loves to show us his ability to read. The repetition and corresponding images will make this a book I am sure to hear over and over again from my favorite little reader.
Books and Blooms is a free story hour and craft recommended for children ages 8 and under, but all ages are welcome. They take place Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m. through August, in The Mount’s Italian Garden at 2 Plunkett St., Lenox. The lineup for upcoming weeks includes:
